Political scientists from across the country met at the Australian National University on Friday 13 June to plan the 2025 book in the Academy of the Social Sciences Federal Election series, published by the ANU Press. Among them was the ABC’s Chief Election Analyst, Antony Green, who recently announced that the 2025 federal election would be his last election night on air. 

To mark Antony’s career and his contribution to Australian political science, the ANU School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR), the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA), and the Australian Political Studies Association (APSA) co-hosted a public lecture. Almost 500 Canberrans, including undergraduate students, academic staff, and members of the public, attended to hear Antony’s reflections on his career and his future plans (including heading to the archives to uncover historical voting records). 

Antony’s decades-long contribution to Australian elections reflects core values of ANU – informing public debate, protecting our democracy, and inspiring emerging leaders – and it was a privilege to celebrate his career.
